Corvus to quadruple output with new Bergen factory

The country is at the centre of the electric revolution under way in the maritime sector, Corvus said in a statement, and strong growth in the Norwegian market as a result of new ferry tenders with strict environmental requirements has been a key factor in the company’s decision to build a new factory there.
“We want to deliver the best solutions in the industry,” Corvus Energy CEO Geir Bjoerkeli said, “and this factory will enable us to quickly test and develop new systems that can meet the future needs of the industry. By switching from manual processing to automated production, we will quadruple our capacity. More efficient production also makes us much more competitive against low-cost countries.”
The company’s head office, production and development facilities are in Vancouver, but most of its sales, service and marketing activities are in Bergen. Corvus is a member of the NCE Maritime CleanTech industry cluster in Western Norway and will receive support from the group during the planning and project development stages. The company has become more Norwegian of late, and renamed Norwegian state energy firm Equinor, BW Group and Norsk Hydro now control about 70% of the shares.
The maritime and offshore market for batteries is growing exponentially as new hybrid energy systems offer efficiency gains, emission reductions and scope for more flexible ship operation.
