Converted Fjord1 ferries to have NES zero-emission components

Havyard Group subsidiary Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) has won an order to provide key components and system integration management for Fjord1’s upcoming conversion of three Moldefjord-series ferries.

The 125-car vessels, built to an LMG Marin design at Remontowa in Poland between 2009 and 2010, operate on the route between Halsa and Kanestraum on Norway’s west coast. They will be retrofitted with batteries, integrated electrical systems and automation packages in the second half of this year. Following the replacement of their gas engines, the ferries will become emissions-free.

The NES supply package will comprise Quest II charging systems, battery packages, charging plugs and transformers, upgrading of the ships’ integrated automation and planned maintenance systems, and integration of performance monitoring systems. The company will also provide charging plugs and related infrastructure at the ferry terminals.
