Contract for third SRSV awarded at Europort

Sketch of the SRSV

This latest contract follows last month’s order of two SRSVs, which are due for delivery in the third quarter of 2014. The third vessel, initially only an option, completes the latest phase of Rederij Groen’s expansion and will be delivered in 2015. The 35m-long and 8.7m-wide SRSV will be identical to the first two vessels. Every vessel is propelled by two Azimuth thrusters, each powered by a 500-kW electric motor. Three Caterpillar gensets will provide electrical power.
Rederij Groen will employ the vessels in the seismic industry worldwide. Its fleet, which will then comprise 27 vessels, includes SRSVs, guard boats and chasers such as the Aquarius-G and the Astra-G also built at Maaskant Shipyards. Like the chasers, the SRSVs can operate alongside other vessels, assisting with board-to-board transhipment of goods and equipment.

During a special contract signing ceremony at the Europort exhibition in Rotterdam last week, Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam, part of Damen Shipyards Group, signed a contract to build an additional seismic research support vessel (SRSV) for Rederij Groen.
