Contract for one of the world’s first small-scale LNG-FRU

The government of Ghana said China’s CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard has been awarded an order to build a floating regasification unit (FRU) as part of a programme of infrastructure to import liquefied natural gas called the Tema terminal project.

The contract was placed by Tema LNG, backed by Africa-focused private equity firm Helios Investment. Ghana has been trying to get an LNG import project off the ground for years, with two leading FSRU operators, Golar and Hoegh, earmarking their giant vessels for the country’s eastern Tema port only to withdraw due to delays over contracts. For design and supply of the cargo handling system and tank material package Jiangnan Shipyard group signed a contract with the provider of engineering systems TGE Marine Gas Engineering.
