Contract for eight Virginia-Class submarines
Virginia-Class submarines displace 7,800 t and are capable fo speeds in excess of 25 knots

The US Navy awarded General Dynamics' subsidiary Electric Boat, Groton, Connecticut, a contract for the construction of eight Virginia-class submarines (SSN-784 to SSN-791). Proceeding with the construction will be one ship per year in 2009 and 2010 and two ships per year from 2011 to 2013. The last submarine is scheduled for delivery in 2019.
