Construction of new shipbuilding hall begins at MV Werften

The EUR 80 million Hall 11 is being built as part of a EUR 100 million investment in the Genting Group-owned facility aimed at increasing steel fabrication capacity and raising productivity with the latest laser-hybrid welding technology.
The panel line will be one of the world’s most advanced installations, the company claims, capable of welding panels up to 25m by 16m. Following its commissioning during summer next year, the Rostock yard will fabricate 80 large sections for each of the 342m-long vessels in the Genting Group’s Global class of cruise ships.
“These new facilities will significantly increase the capacity of our steel prefabrication and thus increase our productivity too,” said COO Holger Tepper. Initially, around 200 employees will be working in the new hall complex but eventually up to 1,000 staff could be employed there. The investment is part of a wider capital spending programme undertaken by the Genting Group to upgrade its three German shipyards. As well as the Rostock facility, the company operates shipyards in Stralsund and Wismar.

Construction of a new shipbuilding hall designed to house a high-efficiency semi-automatic panel line, a section line, and a line for section outfitting has begun at MV Werften’s Rostock shipyard.
