Collaboration to develop a new high-performance container carrier

Under the agreement, MHI will be responsible for the development and conceptual design of the vessel's hull form while Hakata Shipbuilding will undertake aspects of the basic and detailed design through actual ship construction.
The collaboration targets the development of a new fuel-efficient, high-performance, high-quality, low-cost type of feeder vessel, MHI said.
A first order for two container ships was already placed. The vessels are scheduled to go into service sequentially from October 2014.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Hakata Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., have agreed to collaborate in a joint development of a 1,000-TEU container feeder vessel.
