CoCo Yachts to build third ferry in a series

Dutch yard CoCo Yachts has an order from Zan Fast Ferries of Zanzibar in Tanzania for another high-speed passenger ferry. It will be the third vessel in a series.

The vessel is 49.7m long, 11.2m wide and has a draught of 1.4m. It is powered by two MTU diesel engines driving waterjets through ZF gearboxes. Cummins generator sets will provide auxiliary power. The vessel, of type Coastal Cruiser 599, will join two previous craft delivered in early 2020, providing sailings between Dar-Es Salaam and Zanzibar.

Like the two previous vessels, the Coastal Cruiser 559 will be built by the Plenty Ships of the Yaguang Group in Zhuhai, China. The third ferry is designed in accordance with RINA and IMO – High Speed Code – 2000, with a maximum significant wave height of 4m. Service speed will be 32.5 knots.

The forward portion of the main deck provides seating for 318 economy-class passengers, with a large luggage compartment aft. A further 231 economy-class passengers can be seated on the upper deck exteriors, with seating for 50 premium-class passengers in the upper deck interior. The new Coastal Cruiser 599 is scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2023.
