Swedish marine technology company Candela Speedboat is building a high-speed harbour ferry for energy-efficient operations in Stockholm. Called the Candela P-12 Shuttle, the ferry is set to start operations in Stockholm in 2023.

The innovative hydrofoiling electric ferry will reduce emissions and cut commuting times, and the city believes it will make waterborne public transport more attractive than trains, buses, and cars. The Candela P-12 Shuttle will be shuttling citizens between the sprawling Stockholm suburb of Ekerö and the city center.

It will measure 11.99m of length, 4.5m of breadth, and will have a weight of 8.5 tonnes. It will carry 30 passengers in seats. The newbuilding will be driven by two Candela C-POD and be equipped with batteries of 180 kWh. Three carbon fiber wings extend from under the hull. These active hydrofoils allow the ship to lift itself above the water, thus decreasing drag. Top speed will be 30 knots and service speed 25 to 27 knots. the USV is designed to have a range of 40 to 60 nautical miles at 25 knots.
