Blount Boats and Elliott Bay Design to deliver a new ferry

The initial vessel design will have a maximum capacity of 400 passengers (Sketch: Elliot Bay Design)

A contract to build a 400-passenger ferry to serve New York City’s Governors Island was awarded to U.S. yard Blount Boats and Seattle-based Elliott Bay Design Group LLC (EBDG).

The 44m-long vessel will be designed and built for the Trust for Governors Island, which administers the island in New York Harbor. The vessel will provide passenger ferry service between Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan and Soissons Landing on Governors Island, New York. The island is a recreation and cultural centre for city residents, and the trust in February issued a request for proposals to build a new ferry.
