Bio UV Group and 3C Metal installed BWTS on OSV at sea and in service

Bio UV Group and engineering partner 3C Metal have successfully installed a Bio-Sea L03-087 modular ballast water treatment system on board the 4,350dwt offshore supply vessel, Greatship Maya, at sea.

The retrofit was undertaken for Greatship Global Offshore Service Ptd Ltd (Singapore) while the 2009-built DP2 ship continued to provide rig supply support off Labuan in Malaysia.

Although an installation at sea takes longer than a drydock operation, there are significant cost savings. In this case, a small team of engineers was deployed on the ship for 20 days but there was no docking requirement or off-hire.

Noting that 3C Metal specialises in providing engineering services to vessels at sea, Maxime Dedeurwaerder, Business Unit Director, Bio-Sea by Bio-UV Group, commented: “Together, we surveyed the site, taking 3D scans of the ship’s machinery spaces to simplify pipework, electrical wiring, system integration and installation.”

Pre-installation pipework was prepared at the same time as design and production of the Bio-Sea system. 3C Metal’s Johor Bahru facility in Malaysia fabricated piping, and the structural, hydraulic, and electrical connections for the project. Components were delivered to the ship’s port of call prior to loading and integration.

Greatship technical manager, Pramod Pandey, said: “The 3C Metal and Bio-Sea team was available around the clock and reacted quickly to the challenges faced during the project, which made for an efficient integration. We would likely consider this model again for future projects.”
