Estonian yard Baltic Workboats AS has an order to build two police patrol vessels for operation in the port of Hamburg and within the EEZ of Germany in the North Sea. The order is worth about 17 million euros and was placed by the Flotte Hamburg GmbH & Co. KG (100% subsidiary of Hamburg Port Authority) in cooperation with the water police and Hamburg city Government. It is also planned to order one more vessel. Three new vessels will replace WS 1 und WS 2 as well as WS 20 und WS 22, built in the early 1990s.

The new vessels, PB24 and PB 29, will have plug-in hybrid propulsion powered by MTU engines. The patrol boats will be capable of fully electric zero-emission propulsion mode for two hours at a speed of 7 knots and for top speeds close to 30 knots. The units are scheduled to be delivered in 2025, the third probably in 2027. The two vessels now ordered are of the two designs Patrol 24 WP Hybrid and Patrol 29 WP Hybrid, 24.3m and 29.3m long. They will carry four to five personnel. It is still open which option will be chosen for the third ship.
