Canadian fishing company Baffin Fisheries has ordered an Arctic factory freezer trawler from Turkey’s Tersan Shipyard based on the Skipsteknisk ST-119 design.

Skipsteknisk has through the last ten years designed a large number of factory freezer trawlers built at Tersan Shipyard, also for Canadian owners. Baffin Fisheries is a 100% Inuit-owned fishing company located in Iqaluit, Nuvanut on Baffin Iceland.

The vessel is expected to be the largest Canadian‐owned fishing vessel. The Canadian Economic Development Agency (CanNor) is providing a CAN$3M repayable contribution towards the vessel. The new vessel will have a length of 80m and a beam of 18m. It will have a cargo capacity of 1,320 tonnes of fish frozen at sea or about 930 tonnes of shrimps. It is due to be delivered in February 2024.
