Austria’s Lüftner Cruises takes delivery of latest river cruise ship

The Amadeus Queen is the latest addition to Lüftner Cruises’ fleet

The 135m-long river cruise ship has an operational draught of 1.52m and capacity for 162 persons in 81 suites of six different categories. It has already embarked on a season of European river cruises, taking in rivers including the Rhine, Main and Danube, as well as other Dutch and Belgian waterways.
The Amadeus Queen will be based on the model of the Amadeus Silver ships but will incorporate a range of new features. The propulsion system and aft hull design has been reconfigured to provide sufficient space for a swimming pool. Two Caterpillar 3508 main engines, rated at 783 kW at 1,600 rpm, drive two Veth Z-drives with contra-rotating propellers and give a service speed of 22km per hour. Redesign of the after section of the vessel has resulted in lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions, the company said in a statement.

Austrian river cruise specialist Lüftner Cruises has taken delivery of the Amadeus Queen, the 15th vessel in the company’s fleet built by Netherlands-based Shipyard de Hoop.
