Approval in Principle for new ethane carrier design

Design study of 93,000m³ ethane carrier

The four-hold vessel will use GTT’s reinforced Mark III cargo containment system with a design temperature of -104°C, and will be capable of carrying ethane, ethylene and liquid petroleum gas.
An optimised hull form will provide good fuel efficiency while the proposed dual-fuel ethane / fuel oil main propulsion system with selective catalytic reduction will meet IMO NOx Tier III requirements. Other features of the ‘LNG-Ready’ design include a deck tank, a shaft generator and a US Coast Guard-approved ballast water treatment system.
The classification society’s Johan Petter Tutturen, business director Gas Carriers, commented: “As the gas segment continues to gain importance in shipping, new designs that offer greater efficiency and compliance are important in advancing the segment. We are very proud to support Jiangnan Shipyard in realising this new concept.”

A new 93,000m³ ethane carrier design called ‘Panda E’ and developed by China’s Jiangnan Shipyard was awarded Approval in Principle by DNV GL at last week’s Gastech trade fair in Barcelona.
