ABS joins Unmanned Cargo Ship Development Alliance

The alliance involves industry partners, including classification societies, shipyards, equipment manufacturers and marine architects. The design will integrate features of independent decision-making, autonomous navigation, environmental perception and remote control. The Unmanned Cargo Ship Development Alliance, chaired by HNA Technology Group, was formed by members including the China Ship Research & Development Institute, Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, Marine Design Research Institute of China (MARIC), Rolls-Royce and Wärtsilä. The alliance officially started operations at the end of June this year and expects to deliver the unmanned cargo ship design by October 2021.
