ABS issues cyber-safety compliance certificate to SHI

The ABS Certificate demonstrates compliance with the ABS Guide for Cybersecurity Implementation

Classification society ABS has issued a Certificate of CyberSafety Compliance to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for its Smart Ship Solution which uses real-time data from hull and equipment sensors and transmits it ashore to land-based technical and fleet managers to improve vessel and voyage efficiencies.

It is widely recognised that the transfer of data in real time between ship and shore, enabling automated operations, presents a growing cybersecurity challenge in both the marine and offshore sectors.
The ABS Certificate demonstrates compliance with the ABS Guide for Cybersecurity Implementation for the Marine and Offshore industries and the ISO 27000 series, IT Security Control Code of Practice.
Paul R. Walters, director of the Global ABS CyberSafety® programme, said: "ABS is pleased to be working with SHI to ensure the next generation of vessels is better equipped to address the increased level of cyber risk they will certainly face.“
The classification society will continue to cooperate with SHI on the development of smart ship cybersecurity technology, both for shipboard arrangements and onshore fleet management systems.
