ABB to equip two new AET shuttle tankers

The two vessels, it is claimed, will deliver more efficiency and lower emissions than any comparable tanker, saving up to 1,000 tonnes of fuel a year, equivalent to a 10-12% reduction as compared with similar-sized shuttle tankers.
The ships, which are to be chartered to Norwegian state energy firm Statoil ASA upon delivery in 2019, will have ABB’s Onboard DC GridTM installations, a flexible power system well suited to the integration of variable speed generators, energy storage and new energy sources such as fuel cells. ABB’s AbilityTM Marine Remote Diagnostic System will also be installed on board the tankers, reducing the number of service engineer visits and cutting ship maintenance costs by up to 50%. Safety and reliability will be enhanced through predictive monitoring.
