A new class of mid-size cruise vessels to be built for Oceania

Italian yard Fincantieri and U.S. group Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings have signed a contract worth over 1 billion euros for the construction of two new-generation cruise ships of 67,000gt.

They will be delivered in in 2022 and 2025 and will be used for the Oceania Cruises brand. They will start the line’s new Allura class. They will carry 1,200 passengers on cruises worldwide. No more technical details were given. Mr Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line, said the new class of ships will meet an expected increase in demand. Fincantieri chief executive officer Mr Giuseppe Bono said the latest order means Fincantieri has contracts for 55 vessels to be built for most of the brands operating on the world cruise market, with deliveries extending all the way to 2027.
