Wilhelmsen Port Services has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore-based companies, Yinson GreenTech and R W Marine Services, to promote vessel electrification in the waters of the city state.

The signing ceremony took place aboard the Hydromover, Singapore’s first fully electric cargo vessel during Singapore Maritime Week. The MoU establishes that Yinson GreenTech will provide its electric vessels and digital technology for service vessels operated by R W Marine Services.

The vessel operator has a fleet of more than 20 high-speed passenger and supply vessels. They operate around the clock providing transport services for personnel and cargo consignments to vessels on Singapore anchorages, outside port limits, in the South China Sea, and the Malacca Straits.

Wilhelmsen Port Services will coordinate the deployment of the electric vessels. The agreement is designed to cut emissions and improve efficiency in line with the Port of Singapore’s wider sustainability objectives.

Wilhelmsen Port Services’ Jamie Wrightson, vice president Asia Pacific & India, said: “As global leaders in port agency, we are proud to partner with Yinson GreenTech and R W Marine Services to bring the marinEV zero emission launch to attend to our customers’ vessels. Innovation to bring down emissions and increase efficiencies in the port supply chain requires collaboration and Wilhelmsen Port Services is excited to help bring this to the market.”

Jan-Viggo Johansen, managing director of marinEV, Yinson GreenTech, commented: “We are excited to collaborate with WPS and RW to drive the transition of Singapore’s maritime sector towards a sustainable future. This partnership is a significant step forward in our commitment of reducing emissions and enhancing operational efficiency. By integrating our cutting-edge electric vessels and digital solutions with WPS’s port services and RW’s sea transportation handling, we aim to set a new benchmark for sustainable maritime practices.”
