The aim of the CargoFerry project is to create an affordable and eco-friendly coastal service (SPC Norway)
The project was created with 24 partners who intend to jointly develop new solutions for the future coastal transport by sea in Norway. Its main goal is to be competitive with trucks by establishing a new coastal liner service.
The ongoing project has been organised by the Shortsea Promotion Centre of Norway and runs in 2013 and 2014. It has a budget of EUR 2 million.
The Shortsea Promotion Centre Norway and the Norwegian shipowner Nor Lines are the two main partners in the project. The research partners involved are Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and Marintek, a part of SINTEF, which is the largest independent research organisation in Scandinavia. Ports involved are Bergen, Bodø, Borg (Fredrikstad), Grenland, Kristiansand, Larvik, Moss, Oslo, Stavanger (Risavika), Trondheim and Ålesund – together with The Norwegian Port Association.
