Second phase of Mediterranean Motorways of the Seas project launched

It aims at improving transport connections between the EU and its Mediterranean neighbours and promotes the Motorways of the Sea concept. It also assists partner countries in further implementing maritime transport - and port operations actions as adopted in the Regional Transport Action Plan. This is a road map for transport cooperation adopted in 2007, covering the period 2007-2013.

After the closure of the first Mediterranean Motorways of the Seas (MEDAMOS I) at the end of 2010, the new project consortium presented its work under the second phase MEDAMOS II. During the next three years MEDAMOS II will support the partner countries with developing a full Motorways of Seas network in the Mediterranean, also as integral part of the future Trans Mediterranean Transport network (TMN-T).

The consortium is currently visiting the beneficiaries with the objective of identifying the outstanding needs for technical assistance in the fields of ports operations and efficiency, better hinterland connections and logistics processes.

The Mediterranean Motorways of the Sea, of which the second phase has been launched, is funded by the EU under the Euromed Transport Programme.
