Hamburg-headquartered SAL Heavy Lift will take delivery of three heavy-lift vessels with 800-tonne lift capacity during the first quarter of this year.

The MVs Hanna, Klara and Lisa each have two 400-tonne cranes capable of lifting up to 800 tonnes in tandem. They will strengthen the company’s semi-liner services in the project cargo segment on routes between Europe, the Far East and Africa, as well as other potential services in the future.

The three ships, to be designated as Type 171 units, have a range of distinctive features. They have an ice class E3 specification, one of the highest categories and equivalent to Finnish/Swedish 1A, enabling them to work in Arctic regions. SAL will now offer Northeast Passage transits when suitable. With high crane pedestals, the vessels are capable of greater lifting heights while large box-shaped holds with multiple tween-deck options ensure continuous cargo flexibility.
