Plans for LNG bunker station in Northern Germany
The intention is to offer LNG fuel at the strategic location at the crossing of the river Elbe and the Kiel-Canal. According to the companies, the planned bunker station will provide a safe, reliable and cost-effective way of fuelling sea vessels and barges with LNG. The classification society Det Norske Veritas has been contracted to conduct the risk studies, which will be the basis for the authorities’ approval of the project. Important elements of the studies are a safety screening of the site and a safety analysis for the chosen location in terms of quantitative risk inspections, emergency planning and nautical risks. Brunsbüttel Ports is the owner and operator of three ports at Brunsbüttel which are multi-purpose ports with water draughts up to 14.40m.
