Hamburg-based Nauticor, an LNG supplier, and Fr. Fassmer, a builder of specialist vessels with its headquarters in Berne, are to cooperate on providing LNG for new and retrofitted vessels. The two companies initiated their collaboration early in February with the commissioning and the initial bunkering of the research vessel, Atair, at the Fassmer shipyard.

Fassmer had built the vessel for the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency. It will replace the existing vessel with that name some time during 2020. Nauticor, which will supply LNG for the vessel throughout its operation, purchased and transported LNG for the initial bunkering and supported Fassmer during the fuelling process.

Fassmer’s head of projects, Christian Schmidt, commented: “We notice a rising interest in newbuilds and retrofits equipped with environmentally friendly propulsion. Due to the successful cooperation with Nauticor, we have been able to prepare and conduct the LNG bunkering efficiently and safely.”
