NAPA launches ferry stability system
Helsinki-based NAPA has launched a cloud-based digital tool, NAPA Stability for Ferries, to support safe loading operations and cargo changes aboard ferries on tight schedules and turnround times. The first installations have been confirmed on seven Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) ferries and the system is being tried and tested by Tallink Silja Line on two ships, Silja Serenade and Baltic Queen.
The company revealed that the new product comes as a response to growing demand from the ferry sector for advanced stability tools designed for fast and frequent loading, unloading, arrivals and departures. The system will also address route-specific issues, sustainability, reporting and compliance, and cargo management. It cargo loading feature will make stability and loading calculations faster, easier, and more reliable, the company said.
The system is already in operation aboard 69 cruise vessels. However, with additional ferry-related functionality, NAPA is now targeting the ferry sector.
GNV chief technical officer, Davide Orecchia, said: “The safety of our passengers is our utmost priority. Working with NAPA gives us the peace of mind that we are maintaining the industry’s highest standards to keep our ferries operating safely and smoothly, while also unlocking data insights to improve the efficiency of our fleet and teams. With dynamic new cargo loading features, and real-time shipboard stability data available onshore via cloud services, our on-board and shoreside teams can communicate and collaborate like never before.”
