MAN Cryo, a subsidiary of MAN Energy Solutions, has been commissioned by the Swedish port of Oxelösund to assist in the development and construction of a multi-functional terminal for liquefied methane-based fuels. OxGas, a fully owned subsidiary of the port, is in charge of the development.

The terminal will supply LNG and green methane derived from biogas direct to the Oxelösund plant of steel producer, SSAB. The fuels will also be distributed by train and trailers to other parts of Sweden. Meanwhile, part of the terminal will be dedicated to the bunkering of methane-based fuels.

Douglas Heilborn, CEO Oxgas & Port of Oxelösund, said: "We have chosen to work with MAN Energy Solutions because of their experience, competence and proactiveness in offering cryogenic and complex multifunctional energy solutions." Noting that the terminal will represent the single biggest investment ever in the port, Heilborn said that when its construction is completed in two years‘ time, the terminal will be a key element in the development of both the port and the city, as well as providing Sweden with access to liquefied methane in the decades ahead.
