Magnetron-free radar launched by Furuno

Marine electronics specialist, Furuno, has unveiled new magnetron-free radar/chart radar systems in both X-band and S-band units. No magnetron means less power consumption and no consumable parts, the company said, while solid-state technology provides clearer images, less ‘noise’ and clearer identification of weak targets. The solid-state set-up also means that there is no pre-heating time, enabling a faster start-up.

“As a leader in marine electronics, Furuno is committed to providing ever more efficient tools to ensure safety at sea, while respecting the world’s environmental objectives,” the company said in a statement.
