Inmarsat has demonstrated its commitment to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by becoming a founding member of Decarbonising Shipping, a Singapore initiative backed by the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore and part of the Trade & Transport Impact (TTI) project.

The TTI programme was established by venture development firm Rainmaking, a cooperative of entrepreneurs with maritime backgrounds running start-ups and innovation projects in more than 40 countries. Inmarsat has already participated in the first two cycles of TTI, held in Europe in 2019, in which more than 1,200 start-ups were identified, leading to 24 collaboration projects.

Ronald Spithout, Inmarsat Maritime president, commented: "Shipping and its customers are demanding solutions and technology to address the decarbonisation targets set by regulators and this is where start-ups and market disruptors come in."

Other partners in the initiative include Cargill, DNV GL, Hafnia, MC Shipping Inc, Vale and Wilhelmsen.
