HHI will undertake all the project work covering engineering, procurement, construction, onshore commissioning and transportation. HHI has extensive experience in building FPSO units operating in various parts of the world. Eni and HHI both have extensive experience from environmentally sensitive and challenging climatic conditions in other arctic areas, such as Canada, Alaska and Siberia.

The FPSO Norwegian Sevan 1000 concept, will be fully winterized and built to meet the conditions in the Barents Sea. The design and engineering of the unit have been based on the highest standards for safety and environment. The FPSO will be provided with electrical power supply from shore which will lead to significant reduction of emission of greenhouse gases. The Sevan cylindrical floater design is currently being operated in the Brazil basin and the North Sea.

The FPSO is one of several major Goliat contracts that have been awarded. The Norwegian contracting and service industry will potentially provide between 50 and 70 percent of the total anticipated Goliat investment budget. So far circa 50 percent of the total anticipated budget value has been or is to be awarded to Norwegian suppliers. Ca. 30 percent has been awarded to contractors outside of Norway. The remaining 20 percent are deliveries under established contracts and in new contracts that will be tendered and awarded in the near future.

The operator is Eni Norge AS (65%) together with partner Statoil Petroleum AS (35%) for Goliat field which is the first oil field to be developed in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea.

On behalf of the Goliat license, Eni Norge AS and partner Statoil Petroleum AS, have selected Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) for the provision of the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Unit for Goliat.
