Well intervention vessel Siem Helix 1 launched

Launching at FSG’s premises in Flensburg, Germany

The German shipbuilder Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft mbH & Co KG has launched the well intervention vessel Siem Helix 1.

The vessel is the first of a series of two ordered by Siem Offshore in
February 2014. Upon its delivery, which is scheduled for 2016, the ship is expected to enter into service for Petrobras in Brasil.
The 158.65m-long and 31m-wide Siem Helix 1 will be operated by Houston-headquartered Helix Energy Solutions to execute subsea well intervention operations. It is compliant with the mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) and well intervention unit 2 class notations. Siem Helix 1 will be equipped with a dynamic positioning system (Dynpos Autro) and a subsea crane with a capacity of 250 tonnes at a depth of 3000m. Accommodation is provided for 150 people.
