Ulstein Verft has signed a shipbuilding contract with the Germany-based shipping company Bernhard Schulte for two offshore wind service operation vessels.

The final detailed arrangements and equipment for the vessels of Ulstein SX175 design have been developed and specified in cooperation with WINDEA Offshore GmbH & Co KG, a joint venture of Bernhard Schulte, EMS Maritime Offshore and SSC Wind Group.
Scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2016 and first quarter of 2017, the vessels will be the first ones to be built for the offshore wind industry by the yard.
The 88m-long and 18m-wide ships can accommodate 60 people in single cabins, of which 40 cabins are dedicated to technicians who service wind turbines.
According to Ulstein, important features are the new X-STERN hull line design as well as the proven X-BOW®. The vessel can operate with stern or front towards wind, waves and current, increasing the operational window.
