Swedish company Tykoflex AB and Norway’s Kongsberg Discovery have entered a strategic partnership aimed at developing modular and intelligent subsea infrastructure. The agreement was signed in Almedalen on Gotland on 24 June.

The collaboration will explore how Tykoflex’s fiber optic subsea closures can serve as a platform for Kongsberg Discovery’s sensor, communication, and positioning technologies. The goal is to deliver secure solutions suited to both civil and defense applications.

Potential uses include underwater monitoring for marine research and environmental data collection, as well as enhanced protection of critical infrastructure. The companies cite recent damage to Baltic Sea cables and pipelines as underscoring the urgency of such developments.

“This partnership has the potential to unlock something truly significant,” said Richard Petersson Wigh, CEO of Tykoflex. Kongsberg Discovery’s president Martin Wien Fjell added that the joint development offers timely innovation in light of geopolitical tensions and increased focus from NATO and EU actors.
