Statoil plans to construct a new wind farm off Scotland

Statoil revealed it has reached an agreement to build five large turbines off the port of Peterhead. “We are very encouraged by the good dialogue with the Scottish authorities,” Statoil said. The project will see five turbines operating in water several miles offshore to create an economically viable scheme. A Statoil spokesman said construction would be likely to start in 2016 and local manufacturers would play a part in building the wind farm. Statoil senior vice president Siri Espedal Kindem said the project represents a new step in the development towards a future floating commercial-scale park off Scotland.

Norwegian oil company Statoil said it plans major new wind farm developments off Scotland.
