Spain’s first SOV launched at Gondan

The SOV Edda Passat was recently launched in Spain

The first of two service operation vessels (SOV) being built at Gondan shipyard in Figueras, northern Spain, for Norwegian shipowner Østensjø Rederi, has been launched.

The two 81.1m-long vessels, built to a Rolls-Royce UT 540 WP design, are the first SOVs to be built in Spain, and Gondan executives are keen to expand in this comparatively buoyant sector. On delivery, the vessels will be chartered to Dong Energy.
The SOVs will be equipped with a 23m-long Uptime heave-compensated walk-to-work gangway, a 3D-compensated crane and a crew transfer landing system with bunkering facility. Meanwhile, an 11m-long onboard tender will provide an additional means of transferring technicians from the SOVs to the turbines.
Gondan has three facilities at Figueras, Barres and Vegadeo and has a well-established relationship with  Østensjø Rederi, having built 13 vessels for the Norwegian owner over the last decade.
