The Rotra Futura, a specialised RoRo vessel designed to carry larger and more powerful offshore wind turbine blades, has officially started to ship blades from Denmark to the US. The vessel loaded the 108m-long blades at the Port of Aalborg under the supervision of project freight forwarder, deugro, which specialises in turnkey logistics project in various industries.

The vessel is one of several ships developed for turbine blade transport. The 168m-long ship has a breadth of 26m, and has its wheelhouse and accommodation located forward. This maximises cargo capacity without obstructing visibility.

Commenting on the project, Dennis Bjørslov, branch manager at deugro Denmark, said: “After years of preparation and hard work, it brings great joy to finally see her in action. Witnessing the first loading operation executed so smoothly and precisely – just as we had planned for – is a proud moment for our entire team. Rotra Futura has performed to our full expectations, reaffirming her vital role in supporting the logistics needs of the offshore wind market.”

deugro, founded in Frankfurt 101 years ago, focuses on the transport of components relating to low-carbon projects supporting the transition to more sustainable energy sources. The family-owned enterprise has 70 offices in more than 40 countries.
