Pioneering Spirit in Rotterdam
Allseas' Pioneering Spirit is 382m and 124m wide. The vessel was built in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). At the bow is a slot – 122m long and 59m wide – where topsides are to be lifted using eight sets of horizontal lifting beams.
Two tilting lift beams for the installation or removal of jackets are located at the vessel’s stern.
They are also used for regular crane lifts, such as the installation or removal of modules, bridges, etc.
The LR-classed vessel is equipped with eight diesel generators, providing a total installed power of 95 MW and driving twelve azimuth thrusters for dynamic positioning (DP3) as well as propulsion. The maximum speed is 14 knots.
Two-berth cabins accommodate 571 persons.
Pioneering Spirit’s main scope of work will be the removal (in accordance with OSPAR 98 regulations) and installation of large steel jacket-based platforms both in challenging areas such as the North Sea and calmer regions. In particular, the vessel will target topsides and jackets that currently cannot be lifted in a single section by crane barges, primarily topsides heavier than 10,000 tonnes and jackets higher than 70m, although smaller platforms can be accommodated equally well.
