Austria’s Palfinger has won a contract to supply 81 lay-down boom cranes to Yunneng Power Co Ltd in Taiwan. The PF 12000-4.6 LDB cranes will be installed on the turbines at the Yunlin offshore wind farm.
The 640-MW facility’s 80 turbines will each be equipped with one fixed-boom crane with a lifting capacity of one tonne and an outreach of 4.6m. One additional crane has been ordered for onshore training purposes. Palfinger’s latest generation of ‘PF’-type cranes are supplied with new safety standards. Provided that they are serviced regularly, no spare parts will be required if the crane is used for typical offshore wind applications for around two years.
Palfinger is now the leading supplier to the Taiwanese offshore wind market, with total orders of 145 units. The country is aiming to generate 5.5 GW of power from offshore wind by 2025.
