Offshore wind turbine factory in UK
German engineering giant Siemens has signed a memorandum of understanding with Associated British Ports (ABP) to locate its first plant for offshore wind turbines in the UK at Hull, a North Sea port.
The factory will manufacture turbines with a capacity of 6 MW each, two times higher than the biggest capacity currently available, while their height will be about 150 metres. As per ABP, the facility is set to provide a boost not only to the regional economy, by potentially creating some 10,000 jobs overall, but also to the UK's offshore wind energy sector, which has had to import turbines from Denmark.
