Offshore wind farm installation project completed

The 60 transition pieces at the Arkona offshore wind were recently installed

Schiedam-based Jumbo Shipping, a heavy-lift project cargo specialist, recently completed installation of 60 transition pieces at the Arkona offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, using its DP2 heavy-lift crane vessel Fairplayer.

Van Oord had hired Jumbo for installation of the pieces, each weighing 400 tonnes, and the work was completed ahead of schedule. The next stage will see the transformer station transported by sea from French shipyard STX France to the Baltic site. Located 35km offshore in Germany’s Exclusive Economic Zone, the wind farm is due on stream in 2019 and will generate 385 MW of power.
The EUR 1.2 billion facility is a joint venture between E.ON Energy Projects GmbH and Statoil ASA.
