Maersk Supply Service (MSS) has won a contract to provide transport and installation support for three 10-MW wind turbines at a French floating offshore wind farm, Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL), in the Mediterranean Sea. The pilot project is being developed by a joint venture between Ocean Winds and CDC Investment Works.

The contract has been awarded by Eiffage Métal, the engineering, procurement, construction, installation (EPCI) contractor for the project. The wind farm will be sited 16km off the coast in the Gulf of Lion, one of the windiest areas of sea in France. The three turbines will be installed on third-generation semi-submersible Windfloat® units from Principle Power in water depths of about 70m. The 18-month project will involve two MSS deep-water anchor handlers, a T-class and an M-class vessel, with offshore operations scheduled to take place in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Jonas Munch Agerskov, MSS chief commercial officer, said: “This is a significant contract for Maersk Supply Service. The floating wind industry will play an important role in the offshore energy transition and we are keen to do our part to help harness the potential of this sector.”
