British energy company Independent Oil and Gas (IOG) has ordered two offshore platforms from Dutch yard HSM Offshore BV. The company has awarded the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract for two platforms which will normally operate unmanned. The platforms will be used for Independent Oil’s Core Project Phase 1 development in the Southwark and Blythe gas fields in the UK southern North Sea.

Phase 1 comprises the development and production of the Southwark, Blythe and Elgood gas fields through a total of five production wells with gas transported onshore to Bacton in east England via the Thames Pipeline.

Independent Oil said that fabrication of the platforms has started, with offshore installation planned for the first half of 2021.
