Innovative maritime crane concept

The new TCC 14000-400 D Litronic® offshore and mobile harbor crane

Owing to its innovative design, the TCC 14000-400 D Litronic® can be used for two completely different types of application. Off Azerbaijan, it is fixed on a floating installation (barge) and used as an offshore crane under offshore conditions, meeting all necessary functions and safety requirements for a rating as an offshore crane according to the norm EN 13852-2, Liebherr notes. As an offshore crane it can lift loads up to 400 tonnes at an outreach of 21m; at an outreach of 70m it is still able to hoist 91 tonnes. The maximum under hook height is 68m.
Thanks to its undercarriage, the TCC 14000-400 D Litronic® can also operate onshore as a mobile harbour crane with high lifting capacities. For the undercarriage, the drive technology of a Liebherr mobile harbour crane was combined with a newly designed steel fabrication consisting of a central X-shaped structure to which four outriggers are mounted.
For travelling operation, the base structure is fitted with 48 wheel sets like on conventional Liebherr mobile harbour crane. During operation, the crane is propped up on support units situated at the end of the outriggers. The dimensions of the support base are 22m x 22m. Using a large number of wheel sets and correspondingly large supporting pads, the crane achieves ground pressure values as low as those of a standard mobile harbour crane not only while travelling but also during crane operation, Liebherr says.
Further advantages of the universal crane, the company points out, are tugger winches that support its functionality. The design of the counterweight minimises the crane’s breakdown torque. Its independent diesel drive is another benefit.
What is more, the TCC 14000-400 D Litronic® offers a comparatively small obstruction area of only 12.5m, Liebherr adds. As an option, it can also be used in tandem mode in combination with another crane of the same type.
In short, Liebherr’s maritime division describes the TCC 14000-400 D Litronic® as a compact and flexible crane for a great number of different applications: an ideal product for customers requiring both heavy-lift cargo handling in ports and floating solutions for typical offshore applications such as the construction of oil platforms or installation of wind power stations at sea.

Liebherr has developed the TCC 14000-400 D Litronic®, a combined offshore and mobile harbour crane, designed with a deadweight of about 1,100 tonnes.

Its first field of application is the construction of oil platforms in the Black Sea.
