The Guide incorporates input from various industry stakeholders and the latest practices in offshore drilling.
As per ABS, the document provides requirements for systems, subsystems, equipment or components from the wellhead to the top of the derrick. The updated Guide addresses the latest drilling technologies, expanded drilling equipment tables and blowout preventer (BOP) related requirements.
Operators who comply with ABS requirements in the Guide for the Classification of Drilling Systems can obtain the classification notation CDS. The intent is for the Guide enhancements to lead to ABS Rule changes in 2012.
