German-British cooperation in offshore wind industry

The scope of services offered by SeaRenergy and Con4Mare, both based in Hamburg, and Specialist Marine Consultants (SMC) of North Yorkshire comprises transport and installation, engineering, marine consultancy, marine warranty survey and the provision of offshore specialists.
While SMC has a long track record in marine coordination and client representation on offshore projects, mainly in Great Britain, SeaRenergy and Con4Mare have broad experience in the German sector. SeaRenergy is active in planning, engineering and executing transport and installation projects. A milestone was the transport and installation of the HVDC converters HelWin alpha and BorWin beta in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Con4Mare is an experienced provider of marine warranty survey and engineering services in the offshore market.
SMC has provided marine coordination services to offshore wind farms in nine projects to date. It developed Atlas, a bespoke marine coordination software to manage vessels and personnel during offshore construction projects. The software was designed by marine coordinators using their experience in conjunction with customer feedback to shape the tool for specific job requirements.
All three companies will remain independent but offer their services through the others. SeaRenergy will broaden its scope of services by offering SMC's full package of marine coordination and marine consultancy in Germany, including the Atlas marine coordination software. SMC will add the full range of project engineering and consultancy services and also be able to strengthen its footprint in marine warranty survey with the know-how and experience of Con4Mare.
“Combining both German and British aspects, especially regarding engineering and marine warranty survey, we are confident that our cooperation gives us a stronger position in the British market,” said Ian Coates, managing director of SMC. “With this package, we have a unique offering for the British market.”
Benjamin Vordemfelde, managing director of SeaRenergy, said, “Over the last years we have seen consolidation of service providers in the German offshore wind market. We believe that this process will continue and that the clients will require a broader scope of services from a single source. Being equipped with SMC’s hands-on software solution Atlas and its know-how and experience in marine consultancy and marine coordination, we will be in a position to match that development.”

One British and two German companies have decided to pool the experience and know-how they have gained from offshore wind projects in their respective countries and form a "one-stop shop" for customers in the industry.
