Norwegian engineering firm and marine architect Sevan SSP said it has a study contract from Norwegian energy company Equinor to prepare initial design for a floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO). The FPSO would be for the Wisting field off north Norway and will be based on Sevan’s cylindrical hull concept.

Equinor said it has decided to further assess a circular FPSO design. A final concept selection is expected during the second quarter of 2021. South Korean groups Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering and Samsung Heavy Industries also participated in the tender for the design study.

Sevan SSP is owned by Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine, leading to speculation that Sembcorp’s yards in Singapore will be in a good position to win the FPSO construction order.
