First of two arctic offshore vessels launched
The owner will use the newbuilding to supply the Arkutun-Dagi oil and gas field in the Sakhalin area, Far East Russia, to supply gas production platforms and to protect them from ice. According to the yard, the 99.9m-long and 21.7m-wide newbuilding is designed for extreme environmental conditions. Their four engines have the total power of 18,000 kW and the propulsion power of 13,000 kW. It is said to be able to operate in thick drifting ice and in temperatures as cold as minus 35 C°. The icebreaking capability is up to 1.7m. As a multi-purpose vessel, the newbuilding is capable of carrying various type of cargo and is equipped for oil combating, fire fighting, and rescue operations with a rescue capacity of 195 persons. Hull assembly of the sister vessel will start soon.
