After recent concept of a hydrogen hybrid CTV, French yard Piriou has developed a new cable laying vessel, designed to lay and repair both fibre optic and energy cables. The 2,100dwt vessel will be able to lay cables on wind farms as well as repair damaged cables on the continental shelf or deep sea. It is part of the yard’s strategy to move into new markets.

The vessel will be 100m long, 18m wide and will have a maximum speed of 14.5 knots. It will have an endurance of 35 days and a range of 10,000 miles at 12 knots. Crew capacity is 49 plus 27 specialist personnel. Equipped with two storage tanks, it will be able to embark and handle up to 1,000 tonnes of cables. The propulsion design was especially laid out to optimise fuel consumption while reducing maintenance costs and providing redundancy.

Vincent Faujour, PIRIOU Group C.E.O. says: “This project represents one year of intense teamwork for Piriou Ingenierie design department. The result reflects their commitment and allows us to widen our product range with the cable vessels segment.”
