EMAS Offshore Training Institute opens for business

Offshore operations like anchor handling and DP can be trained at the simulator

The high-tech maritime training institute is the first of its kind in Singapore owned by a Singapore based company and was developed with the support of a number of maritime training specialists including Kongsberg Maritime and the Maersk Training Centre.

The Academy boasts a modern simulator facility based on the latest version of the Kongsberg Offshore Vessel Simulator with FWD and AFT bridge configuration including full integrated Anchor Handling and Dynamic Positioning functionality, in addition to two Anchor Handling Simulators for assisting vessels, a forward Navigation Bridge Simulator, Kongsberg K-Pos DP Simulator and an Engine Room Simulator.

EMAS is an integrated offshore solutions provider for the oil and gas industry, operating a large fleet of young, sophisticated vessels in critical applications. Kongsberg Maritime’s offshore simulator at the EMAS Academy will support the EMAS crews to achieve safe and efficient operation through the use of realistic
simulation training, especially in the complex, inherently hazardous areas of DP and Anchor Handling operations.

The Academy expects to train around 700 students in 2011, on courses that range from just a few days to a week long and although currently only Ezra staff are accepted for training courses, there is a possibility that the facilities
could be opened up for third parties in the future.

The EMAS Academy was officially launched by owner Ezra Holdings.
