Contract confirmed with Kleven to build a mineral exploration vessel

De Beers confirmed order to build a deep water mineral exploration vessel

The contract was initially announced in October 2014, but subject to final approval by May 2015. De Beers has now lifted all subjects on the order, so confirming the contract. The vessel, the first of its kind, will be of MT 6022 design from marine architects Marin Teknikk. “This design is well proven within the offshore construction segment, but the new build for De Beers will include a wide range of tailor made equipment and features,” the yard said. The vessel will be built at Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik, Norway, and is to be delivered in June 2016.

De Beers Marine Namibia, part of South Africa’s De Beers Group, has confirmed a contract with Norwegian yard Kleven to build a specialised vessel for deep water mineral exploration.
